Conference on Growth Dynamics in Africa (OFCE-IFC-SciencesPo)
Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27, 2024
OFCE, 10 Place de Catalogne – 75014 Paris
In partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank Group, OFCE, part of Science Po, is co-organizing and co-sponsoring a conference on the Dynamics of Growth in Africa, taking place in Paris on September 26 and 27, 2024. The conference will specifically address four main themes:
- Dynamics of growth in Africa: Growth, crises, and resilience
- Growth and macroeconomic volatility. How does the growth from the early 2000s redefine convergence? What resilience levers against the current overlay of global crises?
- Measuring growth
- Development of macroeconomic statistics by national and international organizations.
- What indicators? What implications for public policy definition? What implications for access to external finance?
- Identifying the determinants of growth: Theoretical and empirical modeling
- What channels for the diffusion of international shocks? How to model the relationship between public finance sustainability and social and health policies? What effects of the ongoing evolution of the regulatory and institutional framework of trade and financial exchanges (AfCFTA, Franc Zone…)?
- Growth scenarios: National and regional growth trajectories, sectoral growth trajectories
- What diversification/specialization for economic transition? What agriculture for food security? What development and what challenges for the financial and technological sector?
As part of the conference, IFC will host a roundtable on ‘Digital Opportunities in African Businesses,’ discussing key insights from the recently published flagship report on this topic.
